In the spring of 2006, Dayna Noffke (Zomberella), inspired by the Atlanta Rollergirls and other leagues that were part of the second wave of derby, began soliciting interested women. Noffke left during the summer of 2006 to skate with Atlanta home team the Denim Demons. By the end of the year, Classic City Rollergirls boasted over 30 skaters. In 2007 the league split into two teams, the Dames of Maim and the Hittin’ Misses and in April, held its first bout at Skate-A-Round USA in Athens, GA. Travel games in Savannah and Nashville followed. By the end of the season, the league decided to move to a single team with a rotating roster, a structure that continued through the end of the league’s third season. At the end of 2010, CCRG debuted its new B-team, the Bad News Bs. In 2011 the league became a proud member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association’s (WFTDA) Apprenticeship program and moved its bouts to the Athens Arena to accommodate its growing legion of fans. The league became a WFTDA Class B Member league in March 2012 and looks forward to obtaining a 501c3 tax exempt status and is continuing to raise money to purchase a new skate court floor.
