In a letter issued today to the Fédération Internationale de Roller Sports (FIRS), the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) reaffirmed its position as the official governing body of roller derby, contrary to any claims by other organizations. At the same time, the WFTDA issued a letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) asserting its position, presenting its partners in the governance of the sport, and rejecting any claims by FIRS or other bodies claiming to govern roller derby. The Men’s Roller Derby Association (MRDA), a partner of the WFTDA, also issued a statement supporting the WFTDA as the governing body of roller derby because of the WFTDA’s decade of dedication to developing the ruleset, structure and governance of the sport.

The final WFTDA Playoffs of 2015, held Oct. 2-4 in Omaha, Nebraska, determined the final three teams to advance to the 2015 International WFTDA Championships next month. At the conclusion of the Playoffs, teams from all four Playoffs learned their bracket placements, which were set by random drawing.

The WFTDA Junior Committee would like to remind all interested junior leagues that registration is now open to help launch the Junior Flat Track Derby Association. This initial round of registration will close on October 5, at which time registered leagues will begin discussing and making decisions about the organization - everything from age and gender statements to leadership and insurance. If you’d like to be involved in these early discussions, be sure to fill out the registration form before October 5.
