Insurance Program

In women's flat-track roller derby, the skaters are the sport, and their ability to play is something the WFTDA is committed to supporting. WFTDA understands the risks associated with roller derby, both to our athletes and to our member leagues. In 2008, unsatisfied with the coverage available to flat-track roller derby leagues at that time, WFTDA launched its own insurance program which is available only to member leagues and Apprentice Program participants.

Because of WFTDA's collective buying power and specialization in the sport, WFTDA insurance offers the best coverage for very low annual premiums per skater. WFTDA member leagues are able to purchase general liability coverage for practices and bouts, as well as accident medical coverage for skaters.

We contract only with the highest rated carriers. WFTDA is a specialist in the policy needs of member leagues, and the safety and risk management that can help protect our athletes.

In 2009, WFTDA signed an historic reciprocity agreement with USARS. As a result of this new agreement, USARS members can now be covered by their USARS insurance at WFTDA-insured events, and WFTDA policy holders can be covered by their WFTDA insurance at USARS-sanctioned events. Removing the need for single-event passes effectively eliminates a significant cost for roller derby leagues.
