Calgary Wins D2 Playoffs in Lansing
The second weekend of WFTDA Division 2 tournament games kept fans and skaters on the edge of their seats. Following in Wichita’s footsteps, the 2016 International WFTDA D2 Playoffs in Lansing, Michigan, USA served up a good deal of final-jam wins and seeding upsets. The top-seeded teams were knocked out of contention and the #5 and #7 seed teams rocketed up to earn two spots in the D2 bracket at the 2016 International WFTDA Championships.
Calgary Roller Derby Association of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, won the tournament after starting in the #5 seed—making them the second Canadian team to ever win a D2 Playoff tournament. Not far behind were the second place finishers, Charlottesville Derby Dames of Charlottesville, Virginia, USA, who entered the tournament in the 7th seed. Both teams will advance to WFTDA Championships, Nov. 4-6 in Portland, Oregon, USA.
Calgary’s Easy Break Oven, with a 73.3 lead percentage, 187 points, and a +2.8 differential, was named the tournament MVP.
