2018 Championships New Orleans Game 2: Angel City vs. Jacksonville
Jacksonville Roller Derby (Atlanta #2, WFTDA #6) vs. Angel City Derby (A Coruña #3, WFTDA #9)
248
85
Game 2 of the 2018 International WFTDA Championships New Orleans featured the first upset of the weekend as Angel City trounced Jacksonville 248-85. Angel City found the recipe that slowed down Jacksonville’s talented jammers with part grinding defense, part hard hits and the rest was left up to Angel City’s own jammers to blast through.
The early part of the first period suggested an even match up. There were lead changes, lead jam status was traded, zero point jams, and both teams worked their offense and defense to maximize their scores.

With 12 minutes left in the first period there were just five points separating the teams, 44-39 Angel City, but from that point on the Hollywood Scarlets both inched and leaped forward. At the half Angel had a 50 point lead, 101-51.
The second period was another story — it was all Angel City.
Angel City’s defense found another gear and kept Jacksonville’s jammers stuck while their jammers zoomed up the inside line for lead, blasted through Jacksonville’s walls, or took advantage of Jacksonville’s penalties and distraction to score.
Erin Jackson just confirmed she’s not here 😭 my bracket and my life are ruined #talk2wftda

Jacksonville missed their star jammer Erin Jackson, who is competing on ice skates this weekend, but Jamsterella and Leanne Groll and Snot Rocket Science worked to make up for the absence.
Angel City will play Victorian Roller Derby League of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia (Seed #1, WFTDA #1) at 8 p.m. on Friday and Jacksonville will play Crime City Rollers of Malmö, Sweden (A Coruña #2, WFTDA #10) at noon on Saturday.
