WFTDA Releases April Rankings and 2024 Regional Championships Seeding and Brackets for North America and Europe
Today, the WFTDA released the latest rankings of its member league charter teams, which reflect games played through April 2, 2024. See the current rankings at https://stats.wftda.com/rankings.
WFTDA is also releasing the brackets and game times for the 2024 WFTDA Regional Championships in North America and Europe, with seeding determined by the April 2, 2024 rankings. The Oceania Regional Championship tournament, The Great Southern Slam, has announced the top 12 participating teams in their Regional Championship, and will release brackets when they are ready. WFTDA will work with member leagues in the Latin America region to discuss competitive opportunities that support the region’s needs, and to seek solutions to support their participation in the global competitive system.
Information on Regional Championships
The WFTDA competitive system is divided into six regions: Europe, Latin America, North America – Northeast, North America – South, North America – West, and Oceania. Rankings are based on sanctioned games played between teams in each region. Member leagues may enter more than one team into competitive play, and may opt to place their team(s) in a different region than the geographical region they were originally assigned. In order to qualify for Regional Championships, five games in the season must qualify as “close” games, based on anticipated or calculated rankings algorithm points.
Teams are required to compete in their Regional Championship to qualify for Global Championships. Seats to the Global Championship are awarded based on the size and comparative strength of each region. There is a separate, optional, Geographically Unrestricted Region (GUR), to gain a global ranking, but this ranking is not used to determine Championships placement.
Skaters are permitted to play on up to two charter teams in any WFTDA member league. However, no two teams may share more than eight skaters in the regular season, and this overlap is reduced to three skaters in the postseason Championships events.
