Black Derby Collective Joins the WFTDA

The WFTDA is thrilled to announce the acceptance of the Black Derby Collective as a full Member League, competing in the North America-South region. This is the first collective league to join the WFTDA. Learn more about Black Derby Collective and their mission:

“Black Derby Collective (BDC) is a newly formed WFTDA-chartered league composed of Black skaters committed to uplifting and amplifying Black athletes in roller derby. Our mission is to create competitive opportunities within the WFTDA structure, with the long-term goal of qualifying for Playoffs and Championships.

As a collective, we are intentional about building sustainable infrastructure while centering equity, visibility, and empowerment for Black skaters. BDC values collaboration across the wider Black derby community, complementing the work of groups like Black Diaspora Roller Derby while pursuing a distinct competitive path through sanctioned play.

Our membership reflects a shared commitment to representation, integrity, and excellence on and off the track, and we look forward to contributing to the growth and diversity of the global roller derby community.”

BCD can now enjoy the benefits of WFTDA Membership, including rankings and tournament eligibility, voting rights in important leadership elections and other organizational issues, and having a voice and participating in shaping the future of the WFTDA and our sport.

The WFTDA welcomes other collective leagues to enter into our organization’s competitive structure. For information on how to join the WFTDA, visit https://wftda.com/join/.
