Day 1 – Friday, April 21

10:30 AM – 12:30 PM State of Roller Derby: Part 1 – “Health of the Sport”

Through presentations, discussions, and exercises, this session will engage participants with a look at the history of roller derby, a presentation on what the development of the sport currently looks like through the lens of broadcast. We will then switch gears a bit to examine how the health of leagues contributes to the overall health of the sport. This session will culminate with a creative exercise that asks participants to look at how the sport is played, who’s playing it, how it’s governed, and where it’s going.

LUNCH BREAK 12:30 – 2:00 PM
2:00 – 3:00 PM Establishing an Intentional Culture of Diversity and Inclusion

Incorporating presentations as well as a panel of leaders from the global roller derby community, we’ll address both “proactivity” and “reactivity” when it comes to establishing an intentional culture of diversity and inclusion.

3:15 – 4:15 PM Sports Motivation – MORE THAN THE MOVIES!  Speaker: LIANNE “Crazylegs” PARRY

Where does motivation come from? Do you know what motivates your teammates? Can one good half time speech really help you win the Hydra? We’ll explore different types of motivation, how it can impact performance and how to handle dips. We’ll look at setting up your league and empowering your leadership to inspire motivated and mentally prepared athletes. We might squeeze in a motivational movie speech along the way!

4:30 – 5:30 PM Structuring Your Season To Reach Your Peak When It Counts: Training For The Roller Derby Skater – Speaker: Rogue Runner
5:30 – 7:30 PM MERCH MIXER @ MCC (Pioneer Room)

Day 3 – Sunday, April 23

10:30 AM – 12:30 PM State of Roller Derby: Part 2 – “Making the Sport Happen”

Following where Part 1 left off, with a series of presentations, panels, and discussions we’ll take a look at how the roller derby community makes the sport happen. From the challenges currently facing the sport, officiating, global governance and competition structure, this session will touch on some of the most important topics impacting the future of our sport.

12:30 – 2:00 PM LUNCH BREAK + WFTDA OFFICE HOURS
2:00-3:00 PM How to Protect Your League from Itself: A Discussion on Ethical Issues, Policies, and Procedures

Examine common scenarios that leagues encounter and address various ethical considerations, along with some policies, practices, and procedures that leagues should have in place, regardless of size, geography, or corporate structure. Includes presentations and a panel discussion.

3:15-4:15 PM League Training Structures: Setting Up Training Programs to Achieve Your League’s Goals – Speaker: Ivanna S. Pankin

An overview league training ideas from new skater training to charter teams and as much between as we can fit in an hour. We’ll talk about basic goal-setting and benchmark measurement at several skill levels and take a look at ways to structure practices and season-length training plans, all with an eye towards achieving specific types of training goals.
