Seeding for 2018 International WFTDA Championships to be Announced Oct. 5

With the changes to the WFTDA postseason structure this year, fans will have to wait just a little longer to find out what the 2018 International WFTDA Championships bracket looks like. In previous years, the bracket was set by random drawing after the last Playoff tournament. This year, September 30 Rankings will determine where the teams heading to Champs are placed in the tournament bracket.

The top 4 teams as of the June 30 Rankings were awarded an automatic berth to Champs, skipping Playoffs game play altogether. The idea behind this switch was to make Playoffs games more competitive and ensure a sufficient number of teams have a shot to make it to the Championships as the WFTDA went from four Playoffs to two.

Victorian Roller Derby League is the #1 seed; Rose City Rollers is the #2 seed; Gotham Girls Roller Derby is the #3 seed; and Denver Roller Derby is the #4 seed. The top 3 teams from each Playoffs will join them in New Orleans for beignets, chicory coffee, and the fight for the Hydra.

The highest-ranked team, as of Sept. 30, that also placed in the top three at the A Coruña Playoffs will be seeded to play their first Champs game against Denver. The highest-ranked team from the top three finishers at the Atlanta Playoffs, which will take place Sept. 21-23, will play their first Champs game against Gotham.

The other four winners out of the Playoffs will be placed in seeding rank, also according to September 30 rankings, to play each other in the first and second game of the tournament. The winners of those games will advance to play the #1 and #2 seeds.

September Rankings and the 2018 International WFTDA Championships bracket will be announced Oct. 5. In the meantime, don’t forget to get your watch pass for the Atlanta Playoffs to find out who else is heading to Champs: just $15 for the entire weekend at WFTDA.tv!
