Texas Rollergirls Win 2018 International WFTDA Playoffs Atlanta

The Texas Rollergirls Texecutioners of Austin, Texas, U.S. (Seed #1, WFTDA #6) took the gold at the 2018 International WFTDA Playoffs in Atlanta after defeating Jacksonville Roller Derby of Jacksonville, Florida, U.S. (Seed #3, WFTDA #9) on Sunday in a thrilling final game of the tournament.

Texas will advance to the 2018 International WFTDA Championships in New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S. in November, and will be joined by Second Place finishers, Jacksonville Roller Derby, along with Montréal Roller Derby of Montréal, Québec, Canada (Seed #2, WFTDA #7), who beat the the London Rollergirls of London, England (Seed #5, WFTDA #14) on Sunday to earn bronze. Together, they round out the top 10 teams competing for the Hydra:

The Tournament MVP went to Freight Train of Texas for her leadership values, her strong presence on and off the track, and her outstanding athletic performance. Freight Train entered the tournament with 71% lead jammer status this season and continued to deliver impressive stats throughout the weekend — including a total of 82 points, 62% lead status, and zero penalties in just her first game against Rat City Roller Derby of Seattle, Washington, U.S.

“Winning Tournament MVP was very honorable and means a lot. It’s an achievement level I’ve never unlocked and it was nice to be chosen for it. Thank you WFTDA for all the amazing experiences!” said Freight Train, adding, “Please give some of the credit to my old Houston Coaches Chicken and Spanky. They gave me my first opportunity to jam!”

The Derby on Toast Bracket Challenge had its first perfect bracket of any 2018 WFTDA Tournament, predicted by Crash, who wins a WFTDA.tv watch pass and tickets to Championships in November.
