Sailor City Rollers Win 2019 WFTDA Continental Cup-North America East

Sailor City Rollers from Buenos Aires, Argentina, South America took home the gold at the 2019 WFTDA Continental Cup – North America East, hosted and organized by Dutchland Derby Rollers August 23-25 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, US. Sailor City entered the tournament as the #5 Seed and dominated their mostly higher seeded opponents Toronto Roller Derby (Seed #12), Blue Ridge Rollergirls (Seed #4), Naptown Roller Derby (Seed #1), and Detroit Roller Derby (Seed #3) throughout the tournament.

With Calgary Roller Derby winning the North America West Cup earlier this month, this means that all of the Continental Cups winners in 2019 are/will be from outside of the United States, a true testament to the global growth of our sport and the amazing athletes who participate around the world.

Detroit Roller Derby (#3 Seed) from Detroit, Michigan, US came in Second Place and Boston Roller Derby (Seed #2) of Boston, Massachusetts, US came in Third Place after a hard-fought game against Naptown Roller Derby (Seed #1).

Dutchland Derby Rollers started the weekend with thirty seconds of silence just before Gem City Roller Derby from Dayton, Ohio took to the track for their first game, to recognize those lost in the mass shooting in Dayton earlier this month.

The MVP award was presented to Jules of the first-place team, Sailor City. In the semi-final game alone, Jules had a 100% lead jammer status, and scored 378 points in their first three games, all while receiving only one penalty.

After game 14, everyone’s brackets were busted in the 2019 WFTDA Bracket Challenge by Derby on Toast and sponsored by WFTDA.tv. The top three predictors, GrenadeOConnor, McFly, and Markthetaylor, were tied, and McFly was randomly selected as the winner. All three will receive a WFTDA.tv 2019 Full Postseason Bundle (including all archives), and McFly will be entered to win two VIP tickets to the 2019 International WFTDA Championships in Montréal.

Congratulations to all the participating teams who kept the enthusiasm going on and off the track.

Thank you to our awesome Officials and the fantastic announcers who kept the mics hot in-arena and on the broadcast.
