2024 Global Championships Announcer Application
The Rose City Rollers are excited to announce that we are hosting the 2024 WFTDA Global Championships in Portland, Oregon! Mark your calendars for November 1-3, 2024, as the world’s fiercest teams converge for an electrifying display of athleticism and camaraderie.
To make this epic event a roaring success, we need YOU! Join our dynamic team as an Announcer and be part of the action as we welcome derby enthusiasts from across the globe.
Tournament Dates: Friday, Nov 1 – Sunday, Nov 2 2024
Location: Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Portland, OR
Announcer applications are OPEN! Positions available include In-House Announcer, Stream Announcer, and Producer/Stats.
In-House Announcer: provides live commentary and updates for the audience present at the venue. Their responsibilities include:
- Announcing team line-ups, player introductions, and starting rosters.
- Providing play-by-play commentary and explanations of the game rules and strategies.
- Engaging the audience with entertaining and informative insights, keeping the energy high and the crowd involved.
- Announcing penalties, score updates, and other important game information.
- Coordinating with the event organizers to make special announcements or advertisements.
Stream Announcer: delivers commentary for the online audience watching the live broadcast of the tournament. Their responsibilities include:
- Providing clear and engaging play-by-play commentary for the viewers.
- Offering insights into team strategies, player performances, and game rules.
- Ensuring the commentary is suitable for an online audience, which might include viewers who are less familiar with roller derby.
- Maintaining a professional and engaging tone throughout the broadcast.
Producer/Stats: managing the technical aspects of the broadcast and providing statistical information to enhance the commentary. Their responsibilities include:
- Coordinating with the announcers to ensure they have the necessary information and cues.
- Gathering and updating real-time statistics, such as player scores, team performance metrics, and other relevant data.
- Providing the announcers with up-to-date stats and information to enrich their commentary.
With teams, officials, and fans joining us from around the globe, we are increasing efforts to broaden the languages represented by announcing at Global Champs. Announcers who work in languages other than English are encouraged to apply.
Eligibility Criteria: Announced at a WFTDA Post Season, Regional or Champs in the last 3 tournament cycles (since 1st August 2017) OR Announced at a national championship or international tournament in a language that is not English
It is expected that announcers will be available for the entire weekend
