WOW! It wasn’t a dream, we actually won the WFTDA European Continental Cup! Words can’t describe how happy and proud we are to have reached the goal we’ve worked so hard for the entire year. We have so many feelings right now, it’s still hard to grasp it all. We faced some great teams this ECC. First game of the tournament was against Tiger Bay Brawlers, a fierce team we’ve been up against before and who gave us trouble at last year’s Continental Cup. This year however the win was ours 154-118. Moving on to the semi finals we faced our amazing hosts Kallio Rolling Rainbow, a team with great solid defense and versatile jammers but we managed to take the win 223-140. That meant: gold medal game (!!) we got to play Antwerp Roller Derby, a team that just broke all the brackets with upset after upset. We fought hard and faced both mental and physical challenges, the game was intense to say the least but we won! WE WON! 166-120! We’d like to thank everyone who made this weekend possible WFTDA and Kallio Rolling Rainbow for a superb organization & hospitality, the officials and volunteers who worked so hard all weekend, the amazingly skilled announcers and photographers, all of our supporters that came to Helsinki to cheer us on, all of our supporters watching from home, our league, and everyone who’s dedicated their time coaching us this past year. You all make us proud to be a part of a sport that is constantly evolving, growing and aiming to be more inclusive and accessible. Picture by @punkmarko
Antwerp Roller Derby (Seed #8) from Antwerp, Belgium came in Second Place, after upsetting two higher seeded teams, including #1 Seed Dublin Roller Derby in the first game of the tournament. Tournament hosts Kallio Rolling Rainbow (Seed #3), who won the first European Continental Cup in 2018, came in Third Place.
And just like that there are just 24 contenders left in the bracket challenge for @WFTDA Continental Cup in Helsinki 😳 @OLRollerDolls take @DublinRD off the top spot and give us our first HUGE upset of the weekend! pic.twitter.com/gufqUi0vU5

The MVP award was presented to Hipshot of Antwerp Roller Derby. Hipshot “took the track more than 60 jams this weekend, earning lead status more than 60% of those jams, and scored more than 200 points,” and has been called one of the nicest people to skate against by numerous opponents, according to WFTDA Board of Directors member, Lois Slain, while presenting the award.
Numerous upsets throughout the weekend meant there were no perfect brackets remaining in the 2019 WFTDA Bracket Challenge by Derby on Toast and sponsored by WFTDA.tv. Patricide had the most correct predictions with 9/12, and will be entered to win two VIP tickets to the 2019 International WFTDA Championships in Montréal.
What an exciting weekend of upsets 🤯 top of the table ended with PATRICIDE predicting 9/12 games! Congrats!
